Reconstruction of a burnt out residence on this site was met with monumental opposition by a State agency, despite a series of low impact/visibility/profile proposals. The only contour deemed acceptable to the bureaucrats was this tower perched high on a ridge line of the Santa Monica Mountains.
On this sunny outcropping the kitchen and master bath collect the first rays of the sunrise just as the living room and master bedroom chart the suns descent. Each interior volume is linked to the aeronautic views this site has to offer. Access from street level is granted by a steel gang plank to the top floor of the three level structure. An angular interior vault traverses the horizontal planes for circulation. All three levels have direct access to grade and adjoining topographical features. |
