Patrick Tighe is Principal and lead designer of Patrick Tighe Architecture. The firm is committed to creating an authentic, contemporary Architecture informed by technology, sustainability and building innovation. Since the inception a strong and diverse body of projects has been realized that include city developed affordable housing, commercial, mixed use projects, civic art, installations and residences.
Patrick Tighe was awarded the prestigious Mercedes T. Bass Rome Prize in Architecture, the American Institute of Architect?s Young Architect Award and the 40 under 40 Award. Tighe is a Fellow of the American Academy and The MacDowell Colony. The work has received numerous awards including six National AIA Honor Awards, several American Architecture Awards, a progressive Architecture Award, Los Angeles Architecture Awards, West Side Prize, Best of Year Awards as well as local AIA Honors. In 2011, Patrick Tighe was elevated into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects, the highest honor bestowed by the AIA.
Recently completed projects include the The Moving Picture Company, the US headquarters for the UK based post-production company (2011 National AIA Award). Also, Tighe?s work in the Affordable Housing sector has garnered much attention and has been published extensively. In 2011, Tighe designed a site-specific, robotically fabricated installation entitled ?Out of Memory? for the SCI-Arc Gallery. The piece, an experience at the convergence of sound, form, material, light and technology was internationally recognized (2011 American Architecture Award).
The firm has produced over 30 buildings within the culturally diverse communities of the greater Los Angeles area and nationwide. Projects are now in development in Morocco, Asia and the Middle East.
Patrick Tighe received a Master of Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to establishing Tighe Architecture, Tighe worked in the office of Frank Gehry and was an associate at Morphosis for seven years. Teaching appointments have been conducted at the University of California, Los Angeles and at the University of Southern California, Tighe has been on the faculty at SCI-Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture) since 2007. Tighe lectures on his work and has been exhibited internationally.
The work of Patrick Tighe Architecture has appeared in Architectural Record, Architectural Digest, The LA Times Magazine, Interior Design, LA Architect, Form and Newsweek. The work has also been included in numerous architectural book compilations including The Power of Pro Bono (2010) and latest edition of The Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture.
