MICHAEL W. FOLONIS, FAIA and Associates, Architects is a full service, award winning architectural firm. Founded in 1983, the office has since established itself as one of the leading innovative architectural firms in the Los Angeles area. National and international publications have published Michael's award-winning designs. Michael's work includes multi-family residential, commercial, mixed-use, single-family residential, and historic preservation / restoration. A competent, professional, creative and motivated team is tailored to assist in all phases of architectural design and the building processes. The firm performs a full range of services from initial feasibility studies, property and project analysis, conceptual and schematic design, through construction administration.

The philosophy of Michael Folonis and his firm is based upon four philosophical components: THEORY, CONTEXT, CULTURE & HISTORY, and TECHNOLOGY. These ideas are used as a guide throughout all stages of architectural research and design. Counter to the throw away culture of today, Michael attempts to establish a more permanent character in his buildings. He does this by grounding his buildings to their specific site. This process is completed only after thorough analysis of contextual and climatological issues. Scale, mass, function, city or neighborhood fabric, planning and zoning codes, and even the process of building are contextual issues that could be seen as design limitations. Michael's approach to building differs in that he sees imposed limitations as opportunities. Opportunities to design significant and signature buildings that go beyond the expectation of clients, as well as, opportunities to respond to challenges in innovative ways.

Michael tailors an experienced team of internal staff, consultants, engineers, landscape architects, and planners, for each project. The internal staff is a highly educated, creative, multi-lingual group with diverse backgrounds that bring a wealth of design experience to projects.
