B + U, LLP http://www.bplusu.com B+U, is an Architecture firm headquartered in Los Angeles and was established in 1999 by Herwig Baumgartner and Scott Uriu. Both partners are licensed architects in the State of California and have each over 15 years of design experience.
Their studio is a place for innovation, challenging the way how we think about design today and is dedicated to push the boundaries of architecture and urban design.
Before founding B+U Herwig and Scott were senior associates and project architects at Gehry Partners for over 10 years. They were in charged of various national and international projects, including the Experience Music Project in Seattle, Washington, The Walt Disney Concert hall, Los Angeles, The Calarts Theater in Los Angeles, The STATA center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston and the Novartis Human Resource headquarters in Basel, Switzerland.
B+U pursue a design approach that integrates a wide variety of sustainability concepts and new building materials in their design. They collaborate with world leading energy consultants utilizing computer software to study the integration of thermal and solar energy systems, to analysis daylight transmission and to simulate thermal dynamics and air movement of natural ventilation systems within the building to minimize energy consumption and maximize the use of natural resources for lighting, heating and cooling.
Current projects:
B+U is currently working on a variety of projects including: a mixed use housing development in Silverlake (2010), the Alva residence in South Pasadena, California (2008), the Frank and Kim residence in Pasadena, California (2009), the Hook residence in Mount Washington, California (2009), the Nakagawa Music Studio in San Francisco, California (2008), the Chittenden residence in Pasadena, California (2007) and the Claudio/ Hilton residence in Washington DC (2008).
