About Eva Sobesky

Eva Sobesky?s work defines a modern generation. Her understanding and appreciation of contemporary architecture, combined with sensitivity toward historical and environmental echoes of the past, provide her firm with the foundation to create homes for people who are concerned with the quality of their life.

Eva I. Sobesky was born in Czechoslovakia and raised in Germany. After studying architecture at the Technical University of Aachen, she moved to the United States to complete her studies at Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) where she attained a Master?s Degree in architecture. Eva began her own practice in 2002, after working for Frank Gehry for 12 years at Frank Gehry and Associates. While at Frank Gehry & Associates, Eva worked with some of the world?s most renowned landscape designers. For her, creating outdoor spaces is not an afterthought to a project but, instead, an integral element of the entire design. Her focus on and passion for landscaping allows the inside and outside spaces to harmonize and enhance each other, creating a natural flow of spaces. This art form impacts people constantly and is a powerful, permanent fixture in architecture.

Eva has surrounded herself with team members who show unwaivering devotion and passion for architectural design. Since 2002, EIS Studio has improved the function, flow and beauty of the spaces in client?s homes and sites. The EIS Studio team is an international ensemble of designers, former Frank Gehry employees and recent architecture graduates. Collectively drawing from backgrounds in the studio arts, art history, engineering, interior design, landscape design, web design, and furniture design. They studio has the ability to focus on both the interior and exterior with unparalleled detail. The extended team includes an excellent roster of consultants, skilled builders from all trades and frequent collaborators Campion Walker Garden Design, the award winning landscape architecture firm. The vital street life at EIS Studio?s Venice Beach office takes place in one of the last original bungalows on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, a testament to Eva?s true love and understanding of Los Angeles. Eva?s talent and ability to create true pieces of art comes out in her interior and exterior spaces. Her beautiful and functional designs, in residential and commercial projects, turn into oases set in urban environments.

We strive to enrich the lives of our clients and the environments around them with beautiful spaces and contextual buildings. Our main design objectives are to create spaces that relate to the given surroundings, define volumes that are comfortable in size and proportion, and allow great plays of natural light through the use of transparency, reflection, and aperture.
Our method is not to present the design as final object but to make the client part of the process. We explore several design schemes in the initial design phase by means of extensive hand modeling, computer modeling, drawing and sketching. Clients have a real opportunity to tell us how they want to fulfill their needs and desires. Our strategy is to stay small, flexible, and focused on a small number of projects at any given time. We have the big office skills with the small office experience. We are committed to a fun and exciting process that yield beautiful project designs that work for the client. ?I see architecture as an opportunity to search for the right answer to create built form in an environment. The design style has our voice, but it expresses the soul of the client,? explains the architect. Each home begins with the client. The architecture reflects the client ?an organic hybrid between philosophy and passion through the emphasis of aesthetic form and practical reality. By guiding clients through the design process and considering all of the involved elements, such as the client?s lifestyle, project goals and site, the group can harvest the true essence of the home and bring it to stand.
