Nestled in the rustic hills of Nichols Canyon, this unique
and stylized home is the creative vision of the designer
responsible for the look and feel of the 1984 Summer
Olympic Games and Santa Monicas Big Blue Bus.
Known for large-scale challenges to the traditional
boundaries of graphic design, Prejza brings his education as an Architect and award-winning international design experience to bear on this intimate residential setting. The outgrowth of a traditional Spanish colonial, the project gives rise to a striking vertical living to the contemporary design, executed in a distinctly Post-Modern idiom. A central circulation corridor forms a spine, both vertically and horizontally, tying the various rooms together and unifying the composition.
Literally dozens of French doors open to the outside, framing private views and bringing the natural sights and sounds of the canyon indoors. Variety in section enlivens the public space, stepping down to an expansive vaulted living room complete with wet bar and fireplace, ideal for entertaining; stepping up, an impressive formal dining room makes its statement with neo-classical columns.
The cook's kitchen has every convenience, from
Gaggenau double ovens to both electric and gas
cooktops, a butcher block work station and side by side
Sub-Zero refrigerator. An adjacent breakfast room is
warmed by eye-level fireplace or cooled, as the case
may be, by the inviting covered patio, perfect for dining
al fresco. Continuity in materials selection strengthens
the overall design, with Italian marble, hardwood and
distinctive European hardware throughout. The result is
a cohesive work of art exemplary of the diversified
practice of one of the great designers of our time. 4
bedrooms & 3 ? baths.
